Fighting Healthcare INJUSTICES & INEQUALITIES during and After COVID-19!

The coronavirus pandemic has revealed stark racial injustices and disparities surrounding the health of our community. While in office, I worked to pass Brianna’s Law, which helped save the lives of people living with asthma. Black Maternal Health (Maternal Morbidity & Infant Mortality) issues are out of control and we are losing black babies and women at an alarming rate. We still face Environmental Violence in our community. I will work to make sure neurotoxins like LEAD will not continue to poison our waters, air, schools, living spaces, or our CHILDREN.

As a means of celebrating the vitality of our actively mature citizens, I created the very first 'Brooklyn Senior Games' with longtime Senior activist, Ms. Joyce Bolden, and NY Parks Department. We need to PUSH for access to healthy eating and living for a better quality of life statewide. I am committed to continuing my partnership with Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams to ensure the health of our community remains PRIORITY.

TRULY AFFORDABLE HOUSING

As State Senator, I was one of the first Elected officials to DEMAND that developers of the Armory project include AFFORDABLE HOUSING according to our local residents REAL Area Median Income.

Economic Sustainability & Independence

COVID-19 has proven that our country does not have the structure to protect our economic stability. If we are to overcome this we must support our local heroes or sheroes WITHIN OUR OWN COMMUNITY! While in office, I began to build a league of young engineers, programmers, coders, and entrepreneurs, by creating 'The Campus', a multi-faceted computer coding, tech, arts education program for OUR YOUTH, in OUR COMMUNITY AND in OUR OWN SCHOOLS. 'The Campus' keeps youth engaged socially and emotionally while grooming them to become the next great tech entrepreneur or groundbreaking scientist.

Small, Local, MWBE Business

We MUST support local, small and MWBE businesses. While in Albany, I fought to give small businesses access to the financing they deserve to level the playing field to compete. COVID-19 will mean that ‘big business' will be asking for and receiving bailouts. We need to make sure that the money flows INTO and THROUGH our community, not OUT of it!

Criminal Justice Reforms Protects All of Us

I worked closely with Akeem Browder (brother of the late Kalief Browder who died at the hands of a broken legal system) to lead the efforts to pass Raise The Age. Now, because of my leadership, children aged 16 and 17 years old will no longer be incarcerated as adults. We need to do more to make sure that our youth are treated as potential CEOs and not CRIMINALS.
